S.C. "Skipper" Palmer

S.C. “Skipper” Palmer, Jr., 77, of Saucier, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Ocean Springs Hospital. Mr. Palmer was born on September 12, 1936 in Gulfport, MS to Schuyler C. and Edith Newman Palmer and raised in Fernwood. He was a retired electrician from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 903, and a member of White Plains United Methodist Church. He also served in the US Navy Reserves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Johnson of Woolmarket, and a grandson, Carl Joseph Unger of Woolmarket. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Ivy Johnson Palmer of Saucier, MS; his daughters, Dana (Kendall) Husley of Woolmarket, Dinah (Dan) Shuttleworth of Saucier and Dawn Lajan (Jamie) Van Vulpen of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren, John Suttleworth of Round Rock, TX, Michael and Kristofer Shuttleworth of Saucier, Ashley (Jason) Zapata of Ocean Springs, Kayla Unger of Woolmarket, and Connor and Bayli Van Vulpen of Cleveland, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507. Graveside service will be held Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at White Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
