Sgt. Donnie Levens, U. S. Marine Corps, 25, of Long Beach died Friday, February 17, 2006 in DJibouti, Africa. He was a native and lifelong resident of Long Beach.
He was a 1998 graduate of Long Beach High School. After high school, Donnie enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and was currently serving as Sergeant with a heavy helicopter squadron. Donnie was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, where he was active with the CYO and with serving the Saltillo Mission in Mexico.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Levens of Long Beach; father, Grady Stone of Long Beach; a sister, Cabrina Carter, her spouse, John Carter and their two children, Kyonna and Elijah, all of Jacksonville, NC; a brother, Matt Levens of Long Beach; grandparents, Mary Levens of Long Beach, W. T. and Lola Smith; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family prefers memorials to St. Thomas Catholic Church "Saltillo Mission Chapel Fund", 720 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS 39560.
The visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2006 from 5 until 9 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Long Beach. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church , where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service. Interment wil follow at Pine Ridge Gardens in Gulfport.
