Shirley Ann Sims Brown, 76, of Biloxi, MS passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on August 17, 2011 in Biloxi, MS. She was born on February 14, 1935, in Hannibal, MO, the last of five children. Shirley graduated from Hannibal High School in 1953. While attending high school she was involved in athletics playing softball and running track, she was a cheerleader and active in the drama club. Shirley lived in California, Texas and Germany before permanently moving back to Biloxi in 1969. She attended Triangle Chapel at Keesler Air Force Base. Shirley was involved in the Chamber of Commerce in Biloxi, Gulf Coast Carnival Association and Krew of Venus. She enjoyed exercise class at Donal Snyder Community Center, attending plays at Center Stage and community concerts. She enjoyed traveling trips around the world, some of the most recent being Japan, Alaska, Israel, England, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland. She also enjoyed traveling the United States including places such as Boston, Orlando, D.C., New York and Maine. She worked for Bell Telephone and H&R Block where she was a tax instructor and office manager. She was an enrolled agent for the IRS and had her own Tax consulting business with her husband. She owned and managed several rental properties.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Robert Conway Brown of Hannibal, MO, her parents the late DeForrest L Sims and Emma Jane Sims also of Hannibal, MO and two brothers, Roydon Sims and DeForrest Sims Jr. of Hannibal,Mo.
She is survived by her three children, daughter Cathy Webb and her husband Ernie of Clinton, MS; son, Craig Brown and his wife Terri of Biloxi; daughter, Karen Longstreet and her husband David of Lexington, SC; seven grandchildren, Jacob Webb, Daniel Webb, Craig Alan Brown Jr., Noah Longstreet, Levi Longstreet, Micha Longstreet and Emma Longstreet; two great grandchildren Brooks Webb and Ryker Webb. Her sister Kathleen Wegehoft of Hannibal, MO and her brother Harold Dale Sims also of Hannibal, MO.
She wanted to give special thanks to Dr. Pamela Tuli, Dr. Allison Wall and Staff at Memorial Hospital and also Ernest House, David Russell and Jerry Thompson for their great help and support in managing her real estate properties. The family would also like to thank Ms. Louverta Adams and Ms. Sharmaine Johnson of Comfort Keepers.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Biloxi. Interment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
