Shirley Ermine

Shirley Ermine, 93, of Long Beach, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016. Shirley was born November 8, 1923 in Wadena, MN. In 1937 she moved to Elkhart, IN where she graduated from Concord High School. She enlisted in the WAC’s in March 1945 and met and married James Ermine in El Paso, TX. They had 2 children. The Army and later the Air Force moved them from place to place so they had many wonderful experiences. Jim retired in 1965 and in January 1966 they moved to Long Beach, MS. Shirley lived 2 lives - one prior to Jim’s death, and one afterward - prior life as a wife and mother who enjoyed many hobbies, but especially produced beautiful ceramic pieces. During her second life, she enjoyed traveling with her friends. She served as an officer of the Colonial Dames and compiled an extensive family genealogy of the Spore family. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marie Spore; husband, James Ermine; and siblings, Daisy, Vinie, Roy and Fred. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lanty (Raymond); son, Dan Ermine (Bunny); 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Gulfport. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the VA hospice center. A service will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
