Sidney Lanier Bartlett, Jr., age 83, of Diamondhead died Monday, October 3, 2011 in Hattiesburg. He was born in New York, NY and was a longtime resident of Mississippi. His first love was in agriculture and farmed for 20 years of his life before moving to the coast area and retiring from the naval support base in Pascagoula. He served in the U.S. Navy and volunteered at the VA Hospital. He later became a resident of the MS State Veterans Home in Collins. Mr. Bartlett was a direct desendent of Josiah Bartlett from the Declaration of Independence.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Thornton.
He is survived by a daughter Virginia E. Butler (Edwin); two sons, Daniel Vick Bartlett (Brenda) and Sidney Freeman Bartlett; seven grandchildren, Melissa Thomas, Michael Havard, Nathaniel Butler, Jaelyn Butler, Rebecca Busby, Ashley Adams, and Courtney Black; and eight great-grandchildren.
The graveside service is Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
