Stephen Anthony Lyons, 85, a lifelong resident of Biloxi, MS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children on May 14, 2024.
Stephen loved Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was happiest surrounded by his family, especially when playing UNO, enjoying Sunday dinners, or sitting on the front porch of the family’s Seal Avenue home. He was a consummate Southern gentleman and was known for his polite and gentle demeanor. A diehard baseball fan, Stephen was dedicated to the St. Louis Cardinals and attended games throughout his life, including the 1982 World Series, and even had the opportunity to meet his idol Ozzie Smith.
Born on September 10, 1937, to John Lyons and Adelaide Peresich Lyons, Stephen was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1956 and attended Perkinston Junior College.
Stephen owned and operated a full-service Chevron and Texaco station on the beach for many years and retired from the City of Biloxi Port Commission.
Stephen was a parishioner at Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral and served on the bereavement committee as “chief dishwasher” and was a 56-year member of the Biloxi Elks Lodge 606.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Cvitanovich Lyons, and their son, Stevie Lyons.
Stephen is survived by his children Adele Lyons, Victoria Lyons Necaise, Valerie Lyons Englade (Bryan), David Lyons (Christina Daniels), Reggie Lyons (David Churchill), Chris Lyons (Cedric Barnett) and his grandchildren, Timothy Brown, Heather Brown, David Englade, Michael Englade, Taylor Smith, Zachary Lyons, Ethan Churchill and Tess Churchill.
