Stephen Michael (Steve) Robinson

Stephen Michael (Steve) Robinson departed this life at his home at Centennial Oak on Friday, August 27, 2021, following a three-year battle with Parkinson’s/Dementia and a seven-month battle with Cancer. He was born on October 11, 1943, in Boston, MA, to Basil and Elizabeth Robinson, Steve was blessed to grow up with his eight siblings in the quaint, beautiful little community of Nahant, MA. As a 17-year-old high school graduate (1961) of Classical High School, Steve joined and was privileged to serve in the United States Naval Submarine Force for six years. Following his honorable discharge, he attended The University of Massachusetts-Boston, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. In 1972, Steve accepted a position with Ingalls Shipbuilding and relocated to Ocean Springs. Steve enjoyed a 38-year career serving in various administrative positions before retiring as the Director of Reprographics in 2010. Steve was a believer in giving back to his community and served for four years as a volunteer Youth Group Leader at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, where he and his family were members, served sixteen years as an Alderman and four years on the Ocean Springs School Board. He was Co-Chairman of the team which worked on the successful bond Issues that resulted in construction of the new Ocean Springs Middle School and Ocean Springs High School. He was Chairman of the Ocean Springs Centennial Celebration and was honored by the Historic Ocean Springs Association for his time and commitment by the planting of The Centennial Oak located at Fort Maurepas Park on Front Beach. He served as the President of Treasure Oak and was a former member of the Ocean Springs Yacht Club. He enjoyed serving others and believed there “is no limit to the amount of good a person can do if he/she doesn’t care who gets the credit”. Steve leaves his wife of forty years, Lana; his son, Christopher (Traci) Robinson of Hattiesburg; and daughters, Shari (Derek) Radich and Sandra (Michael) Peterson, all of Ocean Springs; his grandchildren, Caleb and Ewan Robinson, Kyle and Jake Peterson, and Lily and Ty Radich. Memories of “adventures” with his grandchildren were among the highlights of his life; all seemed to require “going the extra mile”. He loved his family. In addition, Steve leaves his beloved sisters, Julie and Mary; and his brothers, Brian, Peter, and John. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Basil, Kevin, and David. Special thanks to Christine, Shenma, Kendra, Jo, and Gail of Notre Dame Hospice for their care, compassion, and comfort during Steve’s last three weeks on this earth.
