Steven Marion Montgomery, 59, passed on from his Ocean Springs, Mississippi home June 15, 2006. A kind and gentle observer of life, Steven was born in Dayton, Ohio. He came to Ocean Springs in 1978 to find his beloved home.
Steven's dry wit and acute political observations came from his passion for history, written, visual, or actual. He became an active member of the Historic Ocean Springs Association with his longtime partner, Herbert Moore, to help preserve and protect the unique history and architecture of their home place. Like so many, Steven was devastated by the losses of his many friends and special places in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Steven was preceded in passing with the loss of his dear mother, Lila, of Ocean Springs and his sister, Lois, and brother, Gary, all from Ohio. His father, Woodrow Montgomery, brother, Michael, and other family members still live in the Mid West.
His aunt, Phylis Busby of Gulfport, his chosen partner, Herb, and his many Gulf Coast friends will survive other days to remember the kindness and humor of this wonderful man, Steven Montgomery.
A Memorial Service for Steven will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs. His friends have requested in lieu of flowers that memorials to Steven be gifted to St. John's Episcopal Church, 705 Rayburn Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS., 39564, or Historical Ocean Springs Association (HOSA), P.O. Box 552, Ocean Springs, MS., 39566.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
