Sylvia Lavon Saunders, age 87, of Ocean Springs, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2008 in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Saunders was a longtime resident of the Coast. She was the owner/operator of Lavon's Beauty Shop in Biloxi for many years. Lavon was the president of the A.A.R.P. for three years, a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Evans and Hattie Frye; her first husband, Marvin Eugene Holbrook; a daughter, Sylvia Jean Vick, five sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Major Menno "Sandy" Saunders of Ocean Springs; four daughters, Frances (Earl) Schubert of Lake Placid, FL, Geraldine (John) Bond of Gautier, Maurveen Jarrett and Cheryl Holbrook both of D'Iberville; a son, Richard C. (Mary) Holbrook of Satsuma, AL; step-children, Ronald (Amie)Saunders of Orlando, FL, Theresa Stuart of Ocean Springs, David (Betsy) Saunders of Boonville, MD and Kathy (Skip) Ordahl of Vancleave; along with thirty grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. Interment to follow at Coalville Cemetery in Biloxi.
