Sylvian Samuel "Sammy" Carver, age 74, of Gulfport, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Biloxi. He was born in Waveland and was a lifelong resident of Gulfport and a graduate of Gulfport High School. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and Bishop Gunn # 1583 Knights of Columbus. He previously served in the U. S. Air Force. He served as a Gulfport police officer for over twenty years, retiring as a captain in 1982. Following retirement he was the captain of the Doris M (Hancock Bank Boat) then operated his own boat the Sugar Bear out of the Gulfport Harbor for over twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvian S. Carver and Mary Bessie Payne Carver; and two sisters, Dorothy Parker and Arlene Trahan;
Mr. Carver is survived by his son, Sammy Carver and his wife, Amanda of Pass Christian; and two granddaughters, Katie and Kelsey.
The funeral service will be Monday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery with honors by the Gulfport Police Department.
