Thelma Diaz

Thelma Gable Diaz, born April 6, 1907, passed away on January 31, 2007, in Ocean Springs, MS. Mrs. Diaz was a life long resident of Biloxi, MS. Mrs. Diaz was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. Mrs. Diaz worked hard all of her life and retired from Keesler Air Force Base. She traveled throughout the U.S., and many countries across the world. She was an avid swimmer and taught some of her grandchildren how to swim in Back Bay, where she once swam shore to shore. She loved her family deeply and was a daily presence in her grandchildrens' lives. She took them on trips, took them fishing and crabbing, and often cooked meals for them. Her parties will always be remembered, especially the Christmas parties attended by many relatives and old friends, where there was live music and second-lining to "When the Saints Go Marching In". MeMe, as she was known by her family, lived life with gusto. She would have been 100 years old on April 6th , a benchmark she often laughed about with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilhemina and William Gable; her husband, George J. Diaz; her son, George J. Diaz, Jr; a beloved son-in-law, Stearns Charles Pluff; and all of her siblings, Olive Straub, Virginia Tiblier, Inez Dubaz, Clarence Gable and Hurley Gable. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Diaz Magallanes and Patricia Diaz Pluff; a dear son-in-law, Raymond Magallanes, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and many cousins, including those in Biloxi, Gulfport, Wiggins and D'Iberville, MS; and Fairhope and Mobile, AL. A special thanks goes out to the staff at SunPlex Nursing Home, Ocean Springs Hospital and Odyssey Hospice. Visitation is Saturday, February 3, 2007 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. Interment will follow at the Biloxi City Cemetery. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com.
