Mr. Thomas "Bay" Gollott, 93, of D'Iberville, MS, died Saturday, February 27, 2010, in D'Iberville. Bay was born February 4, 1917, in Biloxi and remained a lifelong resident. At the age of 15 he started working with his Uncle Armond Gollott catching oysters. When he was 20 years old he worked with his Uncle Peter Wescovich dredging oysters which were sold to Cruso Packing Company. At the age of 22 he started shrimping with his Uncle Freddie Williams. In January of 1940 at the age of 23 he was employed with Harrison County as a dump truck driver. In 1944 he and his brother, Houston, opened City Cab Company in Biloxi. In 1956 he worked for Gollott and Son Transfer and Storage Company, Inc. In 1961 he was employed with the City of Biloxi Police Department where he retired after 20 years of service. Bay's recreation for many years was catching oysters. After retirement, he and his wife, Hilda, traveled around the country in their RV. Bay was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda A. Quave Gollott, in August 1999. They would have been married 60 years in December 1999. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Genevieve Cowan and Juanita Thorson; and brothers, Houston C. Gollott and Marshall Gollott. Bay is survived by his four children and their spouses, Gordon Thomas Gollott, Sr., John Barry (Jo) Gollott, Karen Elizabeth (Sonny) Broadus, and Mary Lee (Elmer) Williams; sisters, Sue Harrell, Helen "Sugar" Skupien and Ettie Flowers; and thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials made in Bay's name to the American Diabetes Association, 16 Northtown Drive, Suite 100, Jackson, MS 39211, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, One St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38148-0552. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where friends may visit from 12 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
