Timothy W. Mitchell. age 48, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He was born in Tazewell, Virginia and currently resided in Madison, Mississippi. He considered the Mississippi Gulf Coast a very special place and maintained a residence in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Tim is preceded in death by his father, Powell Mitchell; his grandfather, George H. Brown; and his special aunt, Gaye Hankins.
He is survived by his wife, Dana B. Mitchell; his children, Alexis Grace Mitchell and Ethan Alexander Mitchell; his grandmother, Fayne Brown; his mother, Debbie Basham; his aunt, Teresa Brown Mueller; and his cousins, Jason Pauley and Brandy Burkett; his godchild, Brittany Burkett; and numerous other aunts and uncles.
Tim was a graduate of Bluefield State College, Virginia and the Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University. He was currently serving as the CEO for River Oaks Hospital and was the Jackson Network CEO for Health Management. Tim had previously served as the CEO of both Biloxi Regional Medical Center and Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. He was selected as Health Management’s CEO of the Year in 2004 and 2009 and showed his unique leadership abilities and tenacity by guiding the hospital through the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Tim shared his leadership skills and management expertise with a variety of non-profit and community organizations, including the Mississippi Hospital Association, Metro Jackson Habitat for Humanity, Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi, Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce Health Initiative Board, Rotary International and American Heart Association. He was also appointed by Biloxi’s Mayor A.J. Holloway to serve on the Reviving the Renaissance Committee after Hurricane Katrina. Tim was a 2007 graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast and served as a Duke for Gulf Coast Carnival Association in 2004. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Sigma Chi Fraternity and Phi Theta Kapa National Honor Fraternity.
Funeral Services will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will take place at a later date in his birth state of Virginia.
