Vernon F. Letort, 81 of Latimer, MS, passed away at his home on May 4, 2023.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 3, 1942. He grew up in the St. Martin community, attended Notre Dame Catholic schools before graduating from St. Martin High in 1959.
Vernon was a self-taught carpenter that was regarded as an expert by many in his community. His contributions to his community extended beyond his expertise as a self-taught carpenter. His willingness to help numerous people in his community build their homes is a testament to his generosity and kindness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis V. Letort, Frank and Mary Duvernay Wasmer; and his brother, Billy Wasmer.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Jo Ann (Goodyear) Letort; his children, Margaret Lepine, Bubba (Kathy) Letort, Allen (Shelley) Letort, Tammy (Milton) Raines, and Terry (Ray) Ramsay; his grandchildren, Brandon (Donna) Creel, Jeremy (Sandra) Thomas, Jeffrey (Kim) Letort, Jennifer (Matt) Gray, Jonathan (Jamie) Letort, Kevin (Nikki) Creel, Joshua (Bethany) Thomas, Ashleigh (Shawn) Hillen, Justin (Ashley) Ramsay, Ryan (Holly) Letort, Chris Letort, Aaron (Sarah) Ramsay, and Shelby (Shilo) Snow; and his thirty-two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Light for the great care shown to our loved-one. A special thank you to his great-granddaughter, Karley (Letort) Clark and her husband, Justin Clark for the great love and compassionate care they provided to Pawpaw Vernon during his final days.
In accordance with his wishes, the family will host a private celebration of life at a later date.
