Vincent Phillip Schifano

Mr. Vincent Phillip Schifano, Sr., 89, of Biloxi/Ocean Springs, MS, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014. Vincent was born in Birmingham, AL to Joseph and Vincent Schifano. He moved to the Gulf Coast in 1945 while serving in the US Coast Guard in Mobile, AL, where he met the love of his life Jimmie McCarty. He said that it was love at first sight and that he told his friend Louie “he was going to marry that girl one day” and he did. They spent 67 loving years and raised five children together. Their relationship was one to covet. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic his entire life. Vincent and Jimmie were members of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. Vincent loved working outdoors and was a die-hard Alabama fan. He retired from Borden’s Dairy with over twenty years of service. He will be greatly missed by all. Vincent was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Schifano; son, Vincent Phillip Schifano, Jr.; granddaughter, Shannon McDermott; and son-in-law, Darrell McDermott. Survivors include two sons, Ronnie (Hetomi) Schifano of Okinawa and Michael Schifano of Gulfport; two daughters, Charlotte Schifano (Gary) Wylie of Huntsville, AL and Debbie Schifano (Neil) Morris of Saucier; sister, Vicky Schifano of Birmingham, Al; nine grandchildren, Michael Schifano, Jr., Michelle Schifano Blakeney, Leslie Malone, Christina Pitalo, Deborah Pitalo, Angela Workman, Philip Schifano, Christopher Schifano, and Kristina Lee; and eleven great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a personal thank you to Janice Ivey for all the special care she gave Vincent. A visitation will be on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home with a 12:00 noon Chapel Service. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi, MS.
