Mrs. Virginia Joy Atkinson, age 82, of Biloxi, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Latimer.
Virginia was a native of Los Angeles and had been a resident of Biloxi for forty three years. She was a homemaker, a member of the Episcopalian Church and a loving mother and wife.
Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years, Bernard A. Atkinson and her parents, William and Naomi Stroud Chesworth.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy J. Franklin of North Biloxi and Mary C. (Tony) Smith of Vancleave; sons, Charles R. (Darline) Atkinson of Vancleave, James P. Atkinson, David M. (Irma) Atkinson, Bernard A. Atkinson, Jr., Daniel P. (Yumina) Atkinson and Gary J. Atkinson all of North Biloxi; ten grandchildren, including Anthony S. Cookingham, Kenneth J. Franklin, Mandy M. Franklin, Justin M. Franklin, Jessie M. Smith, Daniel P. Atkinson, Jr. and Brian L. Atkinson and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008 in the chapel of the funeral home. 2:00 p.m. Graveside service at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Laurel, MS.
