Wallingford Switzer

Mr. Wallingford Cruise Switzer, age 91, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at his home in Ocean Springs, where he had resided since 1959. Mr. Switzer was born on June 23, 1916, in Handsboro, MS. He moved to Pascagoula at an early age and later moved to Gautier, MS. Ocean Springs had been his home since 1959. He spent thirteen years in the United States Navy and twelve years in the United States Air Force. After retirement he worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding for ten years. He was a charter member of the Elks B.P.O.E # 2501 and was also member of the VFW. Mr. Switzer was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Switzer, son, Claude Switzer, parents, Joseph Switzer and Helen Hill Switzer, and two brothers, Hersel Switzer and Stova Switzer. Survivors include his son, Joseph A. Switzer and wife, Anita L. Williams, of Ocean Springs, daughter, Sue Cates and husband, Eddie, of Woolmarket, daughter-in-law, Mildred Switzer of Tuscaloosa, AL., seven grandchildren, Michael Switzer of Jackson, MS, John Switzer of Atlanta, GA, Wesley C. Switzer, Flanda A. Switzer, both of Murphreesboro, TN., Joseph Alex Switzer, of Franklin, TN., Peanut Cates-Lalley, George Cates of Woolmarket, and four great-granddaughters. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 6-9 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Monday, April 14, 2008, there will be an 11 AM chapel service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
