Walter Garriga, Jr., 77, of Gulfport died Thursday,August 18, 2011 in Hattiesburg. Mr. Garriga was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church , Gulfport and the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After working for thirty years with the Social Security Administration in Jacksonville, Florida, Walter moved back to Gulfport where he opened his own company, Social Security Disability Consultant Incorporated.
He is survived by a daughter, Dr. Michelle Garriga Thompson (Dr. John) of Covington, LA; four sons, Mark Garriga (Stephanie) of Madison, Jack Healy (Lynn) of Gulfport; John Garriga (Jennifer) of Hattiesburg, Josh Garriga (Libby) of Gulfport; a sister, Yvonne Mercier (Mike) of Gulfport; a brother, Norman Garriga of Gulfport; and sixteen grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday August 22, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John Catholic Church, Gulfport where friends may visit thirty minutes before the Mass. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport, with military honors.
