.Warren Stanley Pannell, age 69, of Gulfport, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in Jackson.
He was a native of Ponotoc, MS and a longtime resident of the Gulf Coast. He was a graduate of Alcoma High School, where he was the valedictorian of his class. Mr. Pannell served in the U. S. Air Force as a missile guidance radar specialist and was a key member of the crew that sent the first Atlas Missile (ICBM'S) thousands of miles down range to its target in the Pacific Ocean.
He retired from Bell South in 1998 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Pass Road Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mr. Pannell was preceded in death by his parents, Albert L. Pannell and Mae Doyle Rutleage; a sister, Lucy Lynn Wilson; and a brother, Albert E. Pannell.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy June Miller Pannell of Gulfport; mother-in-law, Sadie Starrett of Gulfport; two sons, Brian D. Pannell and wife, Teresa of Clinton, and Ronnie A. Pannell and wife, Jennifer of Richland; a sister, Lera Mae Evans of Alcoma; a sister-in-law Patty McKinley and husband, Charles of Gulfport; five grandchildren, Ashlee, Douglas, Lora Beth, James, and Daniel; and a niece, Bianca McKinley.
The funeral service is Friday, July 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Gulfport, where friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Gardens in Gulfport.
