Wilbur Trahan

Wilbur “Willie” Trahan, 64, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Memorial Hospital , Gulfport, MS. He was born in Welsh, Louisiana and was a long time resident of Gulfport. He will be deeply remembered as a devoted American citizen and protector of democracy, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and good friend to many of "his" Veterans. As a Vietnam Veteran, Mr. Trahan was highly decorated as a U.S .Navy Master Chief, EQCM (SCW), who serviced his country proudly for 26 years. He was Past Chapter Commander of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 5, Past Dept. Commander of the Department of Mississippi and Past DAV 8th District Commander. He was also an Imperial Officer of the National Order of Trench Rats, Life Member of the VFW Post 2536 and the Cooties, American Legion 119, and Fleet Reserve Association. For many years, he also loved music and was a leader and member of several country western groups, lastly "The End of the Trail Band". He is survived by his wife, Ethel, three lovely daughters, Marie Alena Trahan (Marcia) of Gulfport, Mary Trahan-Mallette (Josh) of Gulfport, and Kathryn Trahan of Gulfport, one son, Michel Tiomico-Trahan (Gina) of Jacksonville, FL, and eight grandchildren: Jessica, John, Mark, Meagan, Tabitha, Kyle, Sean and Victoria. His sisters, Debra Atkinson (Tommy) and Gale Hebert (Pat) of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his mother Madeline Chargious of Lake Charles, LA. and his father Nelson Trahan of Welsh, La. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 5pm to 8pm at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on O'Neal Road in Gulfport. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 10am in the funeral home chapel. Internment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi with Full Military Honors.
