William Bernard Quinn

William B. Quinn, 81, of Ocean Springs, MS died November 12, 2009 in Ocean Springs, MS surrounded by family. William was born December 24, 1927 in Faribault, Minnesota. He attended High School in Hackensack, MN then enlisted in the Navy in May of 1945. He attended college at Community Colleges in Minneapolis, MN and later at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN. He enjoyed a 42 year career in Law Enforcement, which included 20 years with the Minneapolis, MN Police Dept., from which he retired in March of 1980. He went on to work for several L.E. Agencies in Minnesota including the Hennepin County Sheriff's Dept. and the Cass County Sheriff's Dept. He was employed as the Coordinator of Law Enforcement Education and Training at what is now Hibbing Community College in Hibbing, MN from 1982-1990. He completed his career as a Law Enforcement Liaison for the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, retiring in December of 2001. In 1992 he and his wife, Ardyce moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi. William’s avocation was music. He played in small dance band combos in Mpls. and St. Paul and many other places in Minnesota. He performed in Dinner Theatre for several years while living in Hibbing, MN and he and his wife were music ministers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hackensack, MN from the 1980's until 2000. He was active in Lions, VFW, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Ardyce ( Button) Quinn; in May of 2004, his parents, William Quinn and Ethel (Siercks) Quinn; three daughters, Elizabeth, Sharon Rose and Mary (Svobodny). He is survived by four daughters, Christine Daugherty, Mobile AL, Moir Quinn, Mankato, MN, Kerry Setters, Minneapolis, MN, and Ann Quinn Robinson, Mpls, MN; five sons, Michael and Daniel of Minneapolis, William, Jr. of St. Paul, MN, David of Prior Lake, MN, and Hugh of Grand Rapids, MN. His survivors also include 32 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four sisters, Joan Chester, Mankato, MN, Judith Streitz, Omaha, NE, Sharon Perkinson Montgomery, MN, Diane Wild, LeCenter, MN and many nieces and nephews. Special mention must be made of his very special friend and companion,Verda Troney and her family of Ocean Springs, all of whom he loved very much and who were so kind and supportive of him. William was a long time member of Visitation Catholic in Minneapolis and more recently a member of St Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, MS. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Minnesota. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 14, 2009. A memorial service will be held at Visitation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN on November 21, 2009. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Mpls, MN at a later date. Please no Flowers.
