William "Bill" Harbin Myers

Honorable William “Bill” Harbin Myers departed this life on February 7, 2013. Judge Myers was born on August 22, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from Murrah High School, Judge Myers nobly served in the United States Army from 1964-1966 during the Vietnam War era. While in the Army, he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant and received the Army commendation medal. Judge Myers attended Mississippi State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi. Judge Myers was engaged in the private practice of law in Pascagoula, Mississippi for 23 years until his appointment as Chancellor for the 16th Chancery Court District in Mississippi in July 1992. He served continuously as Chancellor until 2000. In June of 2000, Judge Myers was appointed to the Mississippi Court of Appeals. He was re-elected to the Court and served as a presiding Judge from November 2005 until his retirement in December 2011. Judge Myers was married to Edie Myers for 46 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, his animals and the law. He was an exceptional swimmer and baseball player. Judge Myers was a dedicated public servant and strived to ensure fairness and justice in the cases he presided over. He was a kind and compassionate person who was loved dearly and will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his parents Price and Margaret Myers and his grandsons Christian and Matthew Myers. Judge Myers is survived by his wife Edie Myers, daughter Julie Myers, sons Bill (Brigette) Myers and Joshua (Angel) Myers and his grandchildren Price Myers and Sophia Myers. Visitation will be on Monday, February 11, 2013, from 11 am until 12 Noon, with a 12 Noon church service, all at St. Paul United Methodist Church Downtown Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to The Humane Society of South MS, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS, 39501. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family extends our sincerest appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Singing River Hospital and Hospice of Light, especially nurse Connie. We also want to express our gratitude to Reverend Kevin Bradley for helping us through this most difficult time.
