Mr. William Richard Byrd, age 86, of Biloxi, MS passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2019 with his family by his side.
Mr. Byrd was born in Biloxi on April 10, 1933 and was a lifelong resident of the Coast. He owned and operated Byrd’s Grocery on Fayard Street with his brother Rocky. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1951 and served in the Army National Guard. Mr. Byrd will be remembered as a great husband and father who loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to give back and support his local community, but nothing gave him more joy then spending time with his grandsons.
Mr. Byrd is preceded in death by parents, William Houston Byrd and Clara Barras Byrd; and two sisters, Billie Joyce Iannazzo and Marianne Johnson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judith Swetman Byrd of D’Iberville; daughter, Shanna (Stephen) Byrd Kuljis of Biloxi; two grandsons, Ayden Luka Byrd Kuljis and Micah William Byrd Kuljis; three sisters, Myrna Bullock of Biloxi, Peggy Butler of Biloxi and Ruby (Dean) Breland of Biloxi; one brother, Rocky (Peggy) Byrd of Ocean Springs; and nephew, Houston (Corrine) Alexander Butler of Biloxi.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi. Friends are invited to visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
