William C. Murphy

Mr. William Carey Murphy, 75, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 in Ocean Springs. Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL and moved to the coast in 1968. He worked at Keesler Air Force Base as an instructor from 1968 until 1993, retiring as a training manager. Mr. Murphy received many awards during his years at Keesler. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Biloxi for 37 years where he was an active member of the church choir. He also served on the Lord's Supper Committee and was active with the Youth Program. Mr. Murphy is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. and Virginia Murphy, and two brothers, Marion and Evin Thomas Murphy Jr. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Hope Murphy of Ocean Springs, two daughters, Cheryl Bracey (Gerald) of Ocean Springs, and Gina Gunn (David) of Gulfport, one son, Jon Murphy of Ocean Springs, four sisters, Mildred Williams, Jean Cain, and Margaret Gorday, all of Pensacola, FL, and Francis Ware of Sweetwater, AL, four grandchildren, Leichmann Spinks, Penny Wild, and Carey and Jordyn Gunn, and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Ann, Joshua, and Harrison Spinks. Funeral services for Mr. Murphy will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe. Friends may visit from 11:30 am until service time. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
