William Richard Goodwin, aged 69 years, passed away at his home unexpectedly on August 28, 2021 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Richard was born on November 9, 1951 to Newton DeKalb and Emma Lou (Adams) Goodwin in Gulfport, Mississippi. He graduated from Gulfport High School. He was an Eagle Scout in Troop 202 of Gulfport, and was a leader in the troop. Richard was a true child of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He loved being outdoors, floundering and fishing coastal waters all his life, and he never grew tired of it. The friends he had were special to him, and he was fiercely loyal to them. Highly intelligent, patient, and tenacious, he could solve problems others would give up on. And if intelligence were a superpower, he had it in abundance - using it to the benefit of others. Richard never stopped learning - whether it was intellectual or just being handy with tools, he continued to grow. Recently he bought welding equipment and began learning to weld. Richard readily used his many talents to help friends, neighbors, and family members. He made us all a part of his small circle of friends, valued us, and now we will miss him. Richard was predeceased by his parents and his only child, Heather Elise Goodwin. He is survived by his sisters, Robin Goodwin Duhs (Michael) and Linda Loraine Goodwin and brother, Newton Douglas Goodwin (Phyllis). Also surviving him are nephews and nieces: Lori Candace Duhs Benoit, Eric Michael Duhs, Jeffrey Scott Magruder, Debra Magruder Carcamo, Samantha Goodwin, Angela Goodwin Roberts, Jessica Goodwin, Nathan Killen and several great nephews and nieces. He also leaves Carol Johnson, who was a dear friend and neighbor. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Goodwin family.
