William H. Moon, Sr. died Friday, February 9, 2007 following a long and courageous illness due to cancer. He was 72 (born July 28, 1935. He was born in Guntown, MS relocated from Tupelo, MS to Biloxi at the age of 6. He lived a few years in Texas and California.
He attended Biloxi public schools; where he participated in all sports.
He served in the U.S. Regular Army with an extended tour in Korea. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard.
He was an avid fisherman and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Pride of the South Bass club. He enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons and his friend Sanford Bennett. During his younger years he was an excellent bowler, regularly participated in tournaments.
Mr. Moon was active in the construction industry from his late teens until recent years when he became ill. He and his wife operated Moon's Acoustics and Drywall Company Inc. for over 30 years.
Mr. Moon was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed.
Mr. Moon was preceded in death by his parents, Joel F. and Opal Moon; a brother, Floyd F. Moon; a daughter-in-law, Claudia Moon; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Mattos.
Mr. Moon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Beach Moon; a son, William H. (Billy) Moon; a daughter, Cindy Moon Cowan and her husband Jim; daughter-in-law, Teresa Moon; grandchildren, Kevin Hilton, Christina Wilcox, Shaun Hilton, Dana Gron, Jeff Cowan, William (Tbo) Cowan, Haley Moon, Christy Burch, Melissa Burch, BJ Moon, and Austin Moon; great-grandchildren, Michael Wilcox, Samantha Wilcox, Abigail Wilcox, Dante Gron, and Ashley Hilton; a brother, Lloyd T. Moon; a sister, Elizabeth Anderson; sister-in-law, Barbara Moon; brother-in-law, Walter Anderson; and Numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moon felt tremendous love and gratitude for Father Patrick Mockler, Dr. P. Pande and the Medical Oncology Staff, Dr. Fred Pakron, and Dr. Paul Matherne.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers remembrance to Fatima Parish Daycare Center, 314 Jim Money Road, Biloxi, MS 39531.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 12th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church; friends may visit one hour prior to Mass time. Internment will follow in the Biloxi National Cemetery. A reception will be held following the interment at Fatima Parish hall.
