William Michael McGonagle

William M. McGonagle, 71, of Biloxi, MS died on Monday, September 28, 2009 in Gulfport, MS. Mr. McGonagle was in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant for 11 years and fought in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked as a prison guard in Concord, Massachusetts for 3 years. He then moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to help open the Shalimar School for special needs children with his brother,Joseph. He worked at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi for 22 years. During the course of that time he was a little league coach, volunteer firefighter at West Jackson County, President of the PTO, a member of the Lion’s Club, CCD Teacher, in addition to several other roles in the community. He was an outstanding, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend with a great sense of humor even during the worst of times. He will always be forever in our hearts. Mr. McGonagle is preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret McGonagle; brothers, Patrick and James McGonagle. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kenesky McGonagle of N. Biloxi; daughters, Karen Ellen Seymour, D'Iberville, MS, Elizabeth Annie McGonagle, St. Martin, MS, Mary Louise (James) Seymour, Concord, NC, Shirley Maxine (Glenn) Battaya, St. Martin, MS; son, William Frank (Jennifer) McGonagle, St. Martin, MS; sisters, Grace Dalton, Stoughton, MA, Mary Rose Crowley, Florida, Margaret Dolan, Billerica, MA; brother, Joseph McGonagle, Spanish Fort, AL; fourteen grandchildren, Karrie Ellen and Lauren Lindsey Seymour, Jonathon, Ryan Hallie McGonagle, Heather, Michael Smith, Jordan, Audrey Seymour, Katelynn, Brennan, Connor, Camrynn Battaya. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 10:30 am until mass time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society.
