William "Bill" A. Smith

William “Bill” Arnot Smith died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at age 85 in Ocean Springs, MS. He was born March 14, 1927 in Biloxi, MS to Selma Redden Smith and Arnot Smith. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Mary Frances Butera and Elsie Trochesset, and his brother Roy Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 63 years Linda Mae Seymour Smith and his four children: Bruce M. Smith (Char) of Boise, ID; Robert W. Smith (Barbara) of Ocean Springs, MS; Byron S. Smith (Tricia) of Tallassee, AL; and Belinda Smith Serata (Robert) of Islamorada, FL. Mr. Smith was the proud grandfather of Dennis Bartenbach, Rachel Smith Krumland, Nathan Serata, Kathlyn Smith Van Buskirk, Jessica Smith Leese, Cahill Smith, Camden Smith Belanger, Madeleine Smith, and Warren Smith. He was great grandfather to Kaden Newman, Collin Newman, Maya Krumland, Emma Kate Leese, Paxton Leese, Ian Bartenbach, and Xak Bartenbach. Bill, a long time resident of Biloxi, attended grammar school in D’Iberville and high school in Biloxi (class of 1944). He served as a medic in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1946-47. He graduated from Mississippi State with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1951. Bill was married to his best friend Linda who has shared their lifetime together from childhood neighbors in D’Iberville to years in Alabama where they raised their family. He worked for 35 years for Alabama Power Company as a Licensed Professional Engineer. They retired to Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Bill gifted his children with his passion for the outdoors and dedication to family. His family is grateful for the loving care given to our husband and father by Camellia Home Health and Home Instead of Ocean Springs. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs, MS followed by a memorial service at 9:45 a.m. and burial at Biloxi National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
