William Todd Stone, age 78, of Gulfport, died Sunday, May 15, 2018 in Gulfport. He was born in Gulfport and was a resident of the Coast for most of his life.
Bill graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He started his career as a computer programmer and retired from Lockheed-Martin as Information Systems Director working at NASA Stennis and Kennedy Space Centers. Bill worked on the NASA Apollo through Space Shuttle programs and was a true space pioneer. He spent four years of his career working on Department of Energy contracts in Oak Ridge, TN. Bill thought of his employees as family.
Bill was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church. He was a master mason 32 degree Scottish rite and a proud Shriner. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and he was a big sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Stuart Stone; parents, James Hugh Stone and Olive “Boots” Stone; and a son, William Edward "Billy" Stone.
He is survived by a son, Robert Todd Stone and his wife, Beatrix "Trixi" of Merritt Island, FL; a granddaughter, Selina Carter; a sister Mary Susan Bourne of Gulfport; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog “Rocky”.
The funeral service will be held Saturday May 19, 2018. Visitation will be Saturday, May 19, from 3 until 4 P.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Gulfport with the service following at 4:00 P.M. and interment at Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi.
