William Thomas "Tom" Mize, 79, of Gulfport, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 in Gulfport. Mr. Mize was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II . He retired in 1974 as a Captain with the Gulfport Fire Department after 23 years of service working out of Central Station and Station 2. Following retirement he continued to work for the City of Gulfport until the age of seventy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Bernard Mize and Mamie Myers Mize; a brother, Ernest Bernard Mize, Jr; and a sister, Edna Catherine "Midge" Cospelich.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor H. "Lollie" Mize of Gulfport; three daughters, Lynn Mize-Sheffield of Gulfport, Scherry R. Engelbrecht and husband, Darrell of Dallas, TX, and Amy E. Johnson and husband, Steve of Gulfport; nine grandchildren, Ashleigh Mazzola and husband, Frank, Joshua Mize Sheffield, Brett Shank and wife, Jennifer, Bradley Engelbrecht and wife, Cara, Adam Engelbrecht, Samantha Mize, Grey Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Avery Johnson, and two great-grandchildren, Emileigh Engelbrecht and Presleigh Shank.
The funeral service will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until the service.
