Willis "Doc" Hebert, 96, of Biloxi died Sunday, July 24, 2005 in Ocean Springs. He was born on September 27, 1908, in Abbeville, LA, and a resident of Biloxi for 82 years. During the 1930's, Hebert participated in the Great Schooner Races of that era and was a charter member of the Fleur De Lis Society. He was a member of the Oystermen and Fishermen Association and the Biloxi Elks Lodge # 606. He spent many years shrimping and supporting his family on his boat, the Sadie Mae in the 1940's and 50's. During the 60's Hebert managed "Doc Hebert's Golf Driving Range" located at Pass Road and Jim Money Road, and gave lessons to many coast residents. During the 70's Hebert was Assistant Manager of Frenchie's Fine Foods located in Ocean Springs, where his specialty was Cajun-style cooking and was well known for his gumbo and oyster fritters. Later he moved to Wiggins where he retired to be close to his family and planted a large garden where he loved to work and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Wiggins, MS. He moved back down to the coast with his family in the 1980's where he has resided since.
Mr. Hebert is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie LeBlanc and her husband, Tom, and Walterine (Wally) Cox and her husband, Frank, and one son, Juan Hebert and his wife, Angela; one sister, Weida Nadalich of Biloxi, and two brothers, Ellison (Tee) Hebert of Vancleave, and Wade Hebert of Biloxi; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs at 11:00 am on Friday, July 29, 2005, with visitation one hour before at the church.
