Woodrow "Woody" W. Alexander, 79, of Biloxi, MS died on Thursday, August 25, 2011.
Woody was born and raised in Prentiss, MS. After attending Prentiss Institute High School he joined the US Army. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Jackson State University, he later reitred from the US Air Force Reserve. He was a former teacher at A.E. Perkins and Howard II Elementary School in Biloxi. He was employed as an agent with Gulf National Life Insurance for over 25 years. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Biloxi and First Faith Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie Mae Alexander and three brothers, William, Bennie, and Luther James Alexander.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Mary Alexander; two daughters, Myrna Nickens MD (Jerry), Belinda Alexander MD; son, Woody H. Alexander; two sisters, Easter Alexander Gray, Florence Alexander Townsend PHD; five grand children, and four great grand children and a host of neices and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, August 29, 2011 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Biloxi from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with funeral services following at 5:00 p.m. On Tuesday, August 30, 2011 the funeral procession will leave Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS at 12:00 p.m. and go to the Biloxi National Cemetery for a 12:30 p.m. graveside service with military honors.
